Performa is a market-focused architecture and engineering company located in De Pere, Wisconsin. For most of Performa’s existence, marketing was perceived as an overhead expense with little return on the investment. The majority of Performa’s early business development success was the result of a “word of mouth” philosophy and strategy. While this allowed for the business’ initial growth, it would prove to be inadequate to achieve the growth Performa envisioned. Performa’s clients, ranging from local and regional corporations to national colleges and universities and the Department of Homeland Security, repeatedly referred to us as the “best kept secret” in our industry. Although it was intended to be a complimentary statement, Performa realized that it was not a brand that matched the ambitions of the business. As a result of this realization, the development of a more agile and stable leadership team, and the rapid growth of social media, the company’s perspective on marketing and how it should be integrated into the company changed significantly. Scott Wohr, who has spent the last 16 years with Performa leading their brand, and Jennifer Kalies, Performa’s recent addition as VP of Marketing and Communication, will share the story of the company’s evolution over the past 20 years into its current state with a high functioning marketing department that supports the firm’s vision for growth.
